Ventrilo ...

So, i joined this guild, Life After Sixty, and they have their own Ventrilo server. So, i'd like to talk about that for a bit.

The guild's been very nice so far. Not nice like, "omg, let me fall over and give you stuff" nice, but everybody has this sort of professionalism to stuff. No missed pulls, no idiot warriors running into a group of mobs and expect to be healed, everybody's cool about wipes and drops. It's been totally amazing so far.

Ventrilo certainly makes everything VERY different. If you don't know, Ventrilo is a voice conference sort of server, where many people can talk to each other over the internet. What's more, it's technically more bandwidth efficient than Skype" and MSN Messenger. Skype" is Peer 2 Peer, so there is a lot of traffic that isn't yours going through your connection. MSN Messenger wastes bandwidth by transmitting silence as well ... Ventrilo uses a walkie-talkie strategy, where theoretically, significant bandwidth is only used if a) someone is talking in the channel, and b) if you are talking in the channel.

On another note, Ventrilo adds a totally different element to the game. Being able to listen to instructions during dungeon runs makes things much easier and quicker when it comes to coordination. The social atmostphere in itself is also enchanced from the pure-text environment. Right now, i'm listening in just because the people are fun to hang out with. I've never had so much discussion about equipment and artificial insemination of cows ... well, and other things too.

Anyways, i'm killing myself trying to get a project done, so i'll leave it at that.

p.s. the americans think i have an east indian accent. hmmm .... must have been the lard i've been eating.
