Hope Is Emo

Watching it reminded me of the things i thought about when i was in highschool, sitting in class, bored out of my mind. It's funny because it's exaggerated. At the same time, it shows that different people think about different things. One of the things that has made me slightly upset is the backlash to all this. You can see it in the comments on their website, people telling her to shut up, telling her not to be like that, telling her that she's stupid, telling her not to cry all the time ... people telling her to conform to their vision of normality. Is that what we want? Is that what she wants?

(Spoiler alert): Yes, I am aware that there's a high chance that this is a parody. Does that mean that it's not worth talking about? It doesn't matter whether "Hope" is real or not, or whether she is faking all of this or not. You lose a great deal of its significance as soon as you dismiss it out of hand, as soon as you ignore the feelings of this person, and people like her. I guess what i'm trying to say is that people place significance on different things. Some things mean more than others to each person. Just because they don't have the same thoughts and reactions as you do doesn't mean they're not human. Just because they see things differently, and feel things differently, doesn't mean they don't have problems of their own, or they're not worth your time.

Thank you, Hope, for reminding me of this small fact, and good luck to all you different people out there.
