Missing Princesses and Overpowered Maidens.

When i had just finished highschool or so, i wrote a cheesy script about missing princesses, and the misuse and misunderstanding of technology. it was filled with clichés and stereotypes, and was totally predictable. i had forgotten about it. Until now.

I finished watching Mai Otome. i hear that it is the "second part" of Mai HiME. it's not the sequel, because they supposedly do not share the same universe. in fact, they don't even share the same characters. What makes them similar is the same character designs. If you have seen "Young and Dangerous" films, you will know d how annoying it is. a good guy in the first one is the villain in the second one, not because he became evil. actually, his character died in the first one. in the second one, he plays a new character.

Very confusing.

My point though, is that Mai Otome is strikingly familiar to me when i watched it. this might sound negative, when it actually isn't. When it's funny, it's really funny. When it's predictable, it's VERY predictable. However, when it's unpredictable, it is VERY unpredictable. I thought it was very well written, in the sense that it feels like i am watching a delicate tapestry unravel with a few threads at a time. SOME people i know probably won't appreciate it ... (you know who you are!) ... but I rather enjoyed it.

The following contains spoilers, and has been hidden for your protection. Please mouseover to read the text.

There's a part in the episodes when one of the characters said, "I'm sorry, I just don't feel comfortable leaving the fate of the world in the hands of teenage girls." ... which i thought was very interesting.

There are countless animes where teenage girls save the world, and nobody bats an eyelash. But the reality is that not that many people would be comfortable with leaving the world in the hands of teenage girls ... although the idea by itself is very interesting. What would the world be like if it was in the hands of teenage girls?

I asked my friend whether the world would have less wars if women ruled the world.

she laughed at me ... shows how much i know! ;)

in the old days, people responded well to a matriarchy. it was easy, because you can ALWAYS tell who your mother is, but not so your father. keeping the mother's "family name", and other inheritences seemed more practical.

i think i am inclined to agree with my friend though. her argument is compelling. i think that as long as there is "need" in this world, whether it is in the form of money or food, or possessions, or even relationships, there will always be conflict.

if you have a chance, take a look at High School Girls ... it offers an interesting theory to the way girls are if there were no guys.

i'll probably write a post about it later on :)
